Key Stage 3

Year 7

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the Year 7 D&T curriculum at The Grange is to introduce pupils to the knowledge and skills required in all areas of D&T through a range of design and make activities and focused practical tasks.

Pupils will cover 5 modules during Year 7:  

  • Introduction to The Design Process and assess pupil’s level at the start of the course
  • Introducing Food Technology
  • Foundation Courses in Resistant Materials
  • Investigating Food Technology
  • Design study – Be inspired by Alessi, design and make a stylised torch

Year 8

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the Year 8 D&T curriculum at The Grange is to build upon the skills established in Year 7 and to explore, in more depth, the place of Technology in modern society.

Pupils will cover 5 modules during Year 8:  

  • Staple Foods / Recipe Development
  • Enamelling – Jewellery
  • Food Production, Development and Promotion
  • Designing and Making using Wood Products
  • Graphics – Confectionery Packaging

Key Stage 4 - Years 9, 10 and 11

At Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to study:

  • GCSE WJEC Catering
  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology: Graphic Products
  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology: Resistant Materials
  • GCSE AQA Child Development

  • Graphic techniques
