Curriculum Overview:  

At The Grange we study the AQA course for GCSE Music.

The Specification Structure:

Unit 1 – Listening to and Appraising Music (20%)
Unit 2 – Composing and Appraising Music (20%)
Unit 3 – Performing Music (40%)
Unit 4 – Composing Music (20%)

There are 5 Areas of Study and 3 Strands of Learning

• Rhythm and Metre
• Harmony and Tonality
• Texture and Melody
• Timbre and Dynamics
• Structure and Form

There are 3 Strands of Learning for the GCSE Music Exam. 
Within each strand there are a number of areas that will be studied:

The Western Classical Tradition:
1. Baroque Orchestral Music
2. The Concerto
3. Music for Voices
4. Chamber Music
5. The Sonata

Popular Music of the 20th and 21st Centuries:
1. Blues
2. Popular Music of the 1960’s
3. Rock Music, RnB (rhythm and bass) and Hip Hop
4. Music Theatre
5. Film Music

World Music:
1. Music of the Caribbean
2. Music of Africa
3. Music of India
