Welcome to the Special Educational Needs Department
Every child has a fundamental right to education and must be given the opportunity to achieve and maintain acceptable levels of learning. Every child has unique characteristics, interests, abilities and learning needs…. Education programmes should be implemented to take into account the wide diversity of these characteristics and needs - UNESCO
Fundamental Principles at The Grange Comprehensive School:
A child with special educational needs should have their needs met.
All pupils are of equal value and have the potential to succeed.
SEN pupils should be educated in a climate of high expectation, cooperation and collaboration.
Educational provision is achieved through integration into the mainstream school with sensitive and creative adaptation of the curriculum.
The School promotes high standards of education for all children, including those with SEN and other barriers to learning, through:
Providing access to specialist staff who offer advice and guidance to support pupils with defined needs.
Resourcing Inclusion to meet the diverse needs of our pupils promptly and effectively;
Working in partnership with outside agencies to deliver effective programmes that support appropriate education.
Working in partnership with parents, providing clear, accurate advice to empower their supportive role in developing educational and social opportunities for their children.
Empowering pupils to contribute effectively, participate fully, offer opinions and make choices in their education.
Effectively monitoring the delivery of educational programmes and outcomes for pupils with identified barriers to learning.
Regularly auditing, monitoring and reviewing the volume and diversity of pupil need and the provision required to meet that need.
When a student has been identified as having an additional need, a range of support strategies can be put in place:
In-class support.
