Reception

During the Reception year the children have taken part in a wide range of activities, covering the Six Areas of Learning.

These are:

  • Language, Literacy and Communication which included all aspects of reading, writing and speaking and listening.
  • Mathematical Development covering, numbers for counting, recognising and writing, calculation, problem solving and shape, space and measures.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World gave the children the opportunity to investigate scientifically. To find out about the past by comparing old and new artefacts. Explore their own and other peoples environments and cultures. Use a range of new technology and computer software and design and build using a variety of materials.
  • Physical Development helped the children to develop their fine motor and gross motor skills. They were introduced to a range of large and small equipment and apparatus and encouraged to develop an awareness of space and safety issues.
  • Creative Development enabled the children to experiment with colour, texture, shape and form, using an array of art materials, such as clay, paint, charcoal and pastels. They were also encouraged to develop their creativity through music, dance and drama activities.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development concentrated on helping the children to interact with others appropriately. To share and take turns fairly, become independent learners and to show an understanding of their own and other peoples feelings.
